W-2 employees have required income tax withholding and employee Social Security and Medicare taxes deducted from gross pay, so take-home pay is lower than gross pay. Big JV Transport pays the employer’s required share separately. Eligible 1099 contractors are responsible for their own income and self-employment taxes. This is a preference only; final classification depends on the actual work arrangement and applicable law. Compensation terms will be disclosed before you accept an offer.
